Affordable aggregate suppliers
APPS Grab Hire are affordable aggregate suppliers serving Surrey, Sussex and South London. We deliver MOT Type 1 and Type 2 crushed concrete, road planings, screened topsoil and other aggregates to builders, groundworkers, landscapers and homeowners. Materials can be tipped, or grabbed into position on site.
Type 1 aggregates
Our Type 1 is made from crushed concrete, graded from dust up to 40mm for easy compacting. MOT Type 1, also known as DoT Type 1, is the most widely used sub-base material in the construction industry. Type 1 quality material must comply with clause 803 of the Specification for Highway Works.
Type 1 should not be confused with scalpings, which contain more fines and have less load-bearing capability. Type 1 is a must for any area subject to traffic and is most commonly used as a sub-base for:
- Roads
- Footpaths
- Car parks
- Driveways
- Building bases
- Hard standings
Type 2 aggregates
Like Type 1, Type 2 is crushed material, under 32mm with a lower specification for grading and fines. It is not as strong as Type 1, so it is not normally used as a base layer on its own. Instead it forms the lower part of a base underneath a layer of Type 1.
Road planings
Road planings are crushed tarmac produced when a cold milling machine removes the surface of a road or footpath. They are also known as road scrapings or road scalpings. Road planings are ideal for hard standings and farm tracks, and using them helps preserve quarried stocks. They are not suitable as backfill for drainage trenches because of their high fines content. FAQs
Aggregate Suppliers FAQs
What is MOT Type 1?
MOT Type 1, also called DoT Type 1, is a graded crushed aggregate from dust up to 40mm that compacts into a strong sub-base for roads, driveways, paths and building bases.
What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2?
Type 2 has a looser grading specification and is not as strong as Type 1, so it is used for the lower part of a base, underneath Type 1.
Are road planings good for driveways?
Road planings are ideal for hard standings and tracks. Call us and we can advise whether they suit your driveway or whether Type 1 is better.
Can you grab aggregates over a wall?
Yes. Our long-reach grab lorries can place aggregates over walls and fences, straight where you need them.
Do you supply recycled aggregates?
Yes. Much of the waste we collect is processed into recycled aggregates and screened topsoil.
Do you deliver to homeowners?
Yes. We deliver to homeowners as well as builders, groundworkers, landscapers and local authorities.
